On Wednesday 9 December the Xmas Lunch is at the Hawker Centre commencing at 12.30 for 1pm; NOTE the earlier time; Details and Menu. There will NOT be a committee meeting in the morning.

25 November We have just heard sad news from Mike Hoskins that Gordon Hudson has died. The funeral will take place at 1.15pm on Friday 11th December at Southampton Crematorium, Bassett Green Road, Southampton, SO16 3NF; the recommended approach is to leave the M27 at junction 5. Barry Pegram has contact details for his daughter, Anne Chapman, if anyone needs them.

On Wednesday 11 November John Parker was scheduled to talk on BAE Systems heritage programme. Unfortunately John has to attend a meeting in the USA on that date and so will be unable to give us his talk. This will be rescheduled for a later date. However, the good news is that Harry Fraser-Mitchell has agreed to repeat a talk he gave recently at the RAeS Handley Page Centenary Conference in London, entitled, "Handley Page Limited - 60 years of achievement.”

On Monday 30 November there is a RAeS General Meeting, to discuss reversing the move of the Library and Careers Centre from Hamilton Place to Farnborough; it will be held at No 4 Hamiilton Place at 10.30 am.

The future of two key parts of the Society headquarters service to members is at stake and members of the RAeS, particularly voting grades (FELLOWS & MEMBERS), are encouraged to attend. There are more details at http://www.newlib.co.uk

Sir Sydney Camm Memorial Appeal - Members may remember that it is intended to erect a full scale model of a Hurricane in Windsor to commemorate Sir Sydney.

An appeal is to be launched at 1.00 pm on Saturday 14th November at the Artique Gallery, 53 High Street, Eton, SL4 6BL

Hawker Association Members are invited to the launch event which will be opened by the Mayor of Windsor in the presence of a gathering of World War II veteran heroes.

A buffet lunch will be served from 2.00 pm and prints, cards and original works will be for sale. 15% of the net wholesale value will be donated to three charities: the Sir Sydney Camm Memorial Appeal, the Bomber Command Memorial Appeal and the Mayor of Windsor's chosen charity, the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research.

1 Nov 2009 Sadly we have learnt of the death of John Chacksfield (Aerodynamics Department). There will be a Memorial Service at 2pm on Wednesday 4th November at St Paul's Church, Church Road, East Molesey. The Church is located at the junction with Palace Road. His wife Maureen has said all are welcome.

On Wednesday 14 October David Hassard will talk on Charles Plantin and Hawkers in ‘Making them right - an engineer at Hawkers 1936-76’. There will be a committee meeting in the morning.

We have had the sad news of the death of Ron Leader. The funeral will take place at 12.30pm on Thursday 25th June at Leatherhead. The Crematorium is at Randalls Park Crematorium, Randalls Road, Leatherhead, Surrey KT22 0AG (A245) 01372 363181, Map.

This year’s BBQ on 10 June was a much higher standard than last year; story.

The annual Association Summer BBQ will be held this year on Wednesday, June 10th at 1pm at the YMCA Hawker Centre as usual. It is essential to book with Ken Batstone by 3rd June (01932 229938). Details. There will not be a committee meeting in the morning.

On Wed 13 May Sir Donald Spiers will talk on the Kestrel Evaluation Squadron and more. There will be a committee meeting in the morning.

The well attended 6th AGM on 8 April was followed by a talk and flying demonstration of a model Harrier by Jim Morley Video; story, On Wed 8 April there is the Annual General Meeting. Sadly we have heard of the deaths of following members;

Elizabeth Ruscoe-Pond and Herbert Valk.

Bill Marshall died on 25 March and his funeral will be on Thursday 9 April at St Peters Church, Hatchet Lane, Cranbourne at 1:15pm. Followed by a cremation at Easthampstead Park Crematorium, South Road, Nine Mile Ride Wokingham RG40 3DW.

Jack Simmonds died, at the age of 90, on 26 March. The funeral will be at Aldershot Crematorium (Guildford Rd, Aldershot, GU12 4BP) on Thursday 9 April at 12.00 noon.

Roger Dabbs died peacefully on 29 March, aged 80.

21 March David Talbot of the Second World War Experience Centre would like to interview anyone with memories of life during WWII (not just from people who served in the Forces but also from those who worked in Britain or just lived through it). Interviews would be recorded for the Centre's oral history archive. If you would like to support this worthwhile historical effort please call David on 020 8657 7584.

On 11 February Dr Michael Pryce returned to talk about the importance of testing VSTOl projects; story.

On 11 March Chris Hodson, son of ‘Mr Hawk’ Gordon gave a talk on Henry Folland; story.

On Wednesday 11 February historian Dr Michael Pryce will talk on ‘Testing V/STOL Projects’. There will be a committee meeting in the morning.

The RAes Waterborne Aircraft lecture at Brooklands Museum on Wednesday, 4 February has been cancelled due to the snow.

We have had sad news that Ian Milne, of Bristol Engines, has died. Ian was a very important leader in the history of the Pegasus and Harrier. Details and funeral.

  We have just heard that, sadly, Trevor Jordan died peacefully in Charring Cross Hospital on January 15th.     The funeral will take place on Tuesday 10th February at 4pm at Mortlake Crematorium. We are sorry to report that Bob Coles died on 13 January. The funeral is on Tuesday 3 February at East Hampstead Park Crematorium, South Road, Nine Mile Ride, Crowthorne, Berks. His brother can be contacted on 01494 527076 or mobile 07951 222597.
