Hawker Association Summer Barbecue -

On Wednesday June 10th 2009, the annual Summer BBQ was held at the YMCA Hawker Centre. In spite of beautiful weather the previous week, it changed on the 10th for rather grey, drizzly skies, forcing the BBQ to be held inside in the usual Main Bar Room. However, the Room was well laid out with individual tables. Guests started arriving soon after 12 o'clock for drinks and chatter and the food was served from 1.30. The food this year was excellent; a marked improvement over last year.
Everybody enjoyed themselves and ate their fill. In fact, there was still food left uneaten at the end! (All the strawberry gateau disappeared very quickly though!)
The usual raffle was held after the meal and the Hawker YMCA Management very generously donated three bottles of wine for prizes.
The only disappointment on the day was that just 29 people attended compared to over 40 last year. Whether this was due to the "Credit Crisis" or last year's experience is open to conjecture.
The Committee wrote to the YMCA to thank them for their raffle prizes generosity and for providing such an enjoyable afternoon; shame about the weather though.

This year, it has become necessary to increase the cost of the BBQ to £12 per head, in order to maintain the standard of previous years. There will of course, be a vegetarian choice available for those requiring such.
It is to be hoped that the weather and circumstances will be kinder to us this year than they were last year! If the weather is fine we shall eat outside on the patio, while inclement conditions will mean eating inside in the Hall adjacent to the patio.
The afternoon will commence at 1pm, when attendees may gather for drinks from the Bar and social intercourse before the food becomes available for serving from 1.30pm.
Partners and Guests are of course welcome.
For those wishing to attend and who have not already obtained their tickets, it is ESSENTIAL that they book with Ken Batstone on 01932 229938 (leaving an answerphone message if necessary), or by snail mail at 42 Kings Road, Walton on Thames, Surrey KT12 2RA, by 3rd June so that attendee numbers are known for the caterers.
