Our annual Xmas Lunch will be held in the usual venue (Hawker YMCA Centre, Richmond Road) on Wednesday 10th December at 12.30 for 1pm.

The cost this year will be the same as last year at £16.50 per person. If you have not yet booked your place, please contact Ken Batstone. You can speak to him on 01932 229938 or just send him a cheque for £16.50 per person, made out to "The Hawker Association". His address is 42 Kings Road, Walton on Thames, Surrey, KT12 2RA.

The Menu will be the same as last year, with a poached salmon alternative to the turkey and also a vegetarian option. It would be appreciated if you would let Ken know, when paying for your meal, if you require the vegetarian option or the fish instead of the turkey. This is to assist the caterers in their planning.

All payments must be received before December 5th. If you have already paid for your Lunch, but you would like the fish or vegetarian option, please send Ken an email to k_batstone@hotmail.com

Attendees at the Lunch are asked to arrive at the Hawker Centre at 12.30pm for a pre lunch drink and socialising, with the Lunch being served at about 1.15pm. NOTE the time is earlier than for our usual meetings.

Christmas Lunch 2014

On Wednesday 10th December the 13th annual Hawker Association Xmas Lunch was held in the Hawker YMCA Centre, Richmond Road (the old Hawker Sports Club). There were 55 attendees; slightly down on last year.

After some difficulties serving lunch in 2013, the layout of the tables was changed this year, resulting in much better table access and comfort; a great improvement.

Glasses of wine were served on arrival at 12.30 and after some socialising lunch was served at 1.15. Unlike previous years, most people opted for the Prawn Cocktail to start rather than soup, before the traditional Roast Turkey with trimmings. This main course was cooked just like Mum used to do it: perfectly. It was followed by a quite delightful Black Forest Gateau for dessert.

After the meal, one of the planned speakers  was unable to attend, so our a chairman leapt into the breach and delivered an impromptu speech with some jokes he hoped would offend nobody present! This was followed by some most interesting stories and amusing anecdotes from our President, Sir Colin Chandler. Some of the most interesting details of these stories had been redacted (a current "in" word) for obvious reasons.

After some Toasts and then coffee, the afternoon finished with an Xmas Raffle; the prizes being only slightly more "Christmassy" than usual.

On leaving after the Lunch, almost everyone remarked on how they had enjoyed the afternoon and a significant number of people said it was the best Association Xmas Lunch they had attended. The only negative comments made were that the sun shining through the windows was too bright and too hot! In December!

The complimentary comments were passed on to the YMCA Staff in a letter thanking them for providing an excellent  meal and an enjoyable afternoon. In just over 3 months, it will be time to start thinking about the Summer BBQ, set on the Patio in warm sunshine with cool beer. Well, we can dream..
