BAES Retirement Association Kingston Walk 34
Pirbright and Bullsworth Common on Tuesday 26 October 2004 -
John Quinn

Twenty people (22 is the most John has had on a walk) enjoyed an excellent walk through the woods and fields and along the paths and lanes of the Surrey countryside starting from Pirbright village green in absolutely perfect weather.

The route organised by John Arthur and Stan Stapleton took them at times within earshot of firing on the Bisley Ranges and dogs barking in kennels, but generally in blissful silence through grazing pastures where, on one occasion, friendly ponies wanted to join the party and walked through the middle of us to everyone's amusement.

. Gates and stiles barred their way, however, and the humans got some unaccustomed exercise for their stiff joints while climbing over them too.

All enjoyed the halfway pit stop at the Royal Oak pub for lunch, during which almost everyone took photos of everyone else. Finally, at the end of the walk, some judicious factoring of pedometer readings was needed by their owners to agree that it really had been only about four and a half miles long.

After a good lunch at the Royal Oak

The horse walked right though the middle of us

Pirbright and Bullswater Common.

This is a pleasant Surrey walk, fairly flat and not too far! (In Pirbright churchyard a huge block of unhewn Dartmoor granite marks the grave of Henry Morton ‘Doctor Livingstone, I presume’ Stanley).
